I have to say "things", because besides my stuffies (I seem to collect them, from the bunny I sleep with to the Ryo-Ohki and Sergei that sit on top of my computer desk), I have other things that I just seem to HAVE to have.

Like, for instance, I cannot sleep without a blanket. I don't care how hot it is, what the season, I must have a blanket. And if it's cold out, the only blanket that will do is wool. I have a perfectly good comforter that's just as warm as the wool blanket, but it just isn't there enough, you know?

What kind of comfort things do other people have?

Lately I've been using a small table. Which is a bit unwieldy, but which seems to have in this case the perfect temperature and texture for something solid-seeming in this regard.

I need to have a stuffie to sleep with too. Otherwise I get all anxious, that I'll have a nightmare. Like if you have a nightmare, and have a stuffy to hold on to, makes it less upsetting.

I guess I'm lucky there. I've only ever had 3 nightmares in my entire life, and they were all the exact same nightmare. Haven't had it return in several years.

On the other hand, without the stuffy, I feel so alone - and it's not the good kind of alone, either. It's more like feeling abandoned and empty, not like feeling safe and solitary and self-contained, which is what being along usually feels for me.

This one stuffed toy I have works miracles when I have panic attacs or stomach aches. I take it with me almost everywhere I go. Seems wierd for an 18 year old male but who's to say what's normal.

I've migrated from item to item. It used to be my asthma puffer, then it changed to my favorite jacket, for 3 years now its been tissues. I stuff my pockets full of them. I take a box with my everywhere and leave it in an accessable place.

I hug my pillow while sleeping, in the same way I would hold a teddy bear. I could easily swap it with something else, but I need to hold something to fall asleep.

I have a blanket. It isn't heavy enough though, I also need to have adequate weight on me in order to sleep well. If I go to a hotel I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep, they only ever have a thin blanket and bedspread!

Away from the house, a closely fitting jacket or shirt or soemthign that applies pressure or weight to me helps. If I am feelign stressed, I have backed myself into a corner. The walls against me make me feel grounded and centered. Laying against the earth makes me feel safe too.

I carry a flashlight with me wherever I go. Since I live in California, I am awaiting another earthquake and don’t want to be trapped in the dark when it hits.

My dog is my comfort object. He has been with me through all the hard stuff I've been through. He is sometimes my only reason for living. I sleep with him at night. He knows how I am feeling always. He won't leave my side when I am upset. He is very elderly and I don't know what I'll do when he dies
