I'm not trying to offend anybody, but I think the AS/Autism culture is just too weird for my tastes. From NTs, the anti-cure thingy, or whatever, I just can't take it all!

Maybe I should stop hanging out on WP too much or leave the Autism/AS world for good.

I'm unsure why you need to announce this.

You could try looking for another AS community online that might be a better fit. Plenty of people here aren't anti-cure though.

Roger, are you a senior? You should hang out in the Aspie Cafe for over 40. That is in the Intro Forum.

I know what you mean but I think what you are referring to would be better called 'WrongPlanet.net culture' as opposed to Autism/AS culture. Apart from anything else, statistically, most Aspergians and Autistics have never posted on WrongPlanet.net

The NT thing is what disturbs me the most about this place. People don't seem to realise the hypocricy of starting threads complaining about bigotry directed toward Aspergians and then on the other hand making completely bigoted posts directed towards 'the dreaded NTs'. I think this is fairly common behaviour in minority online communities from my experience.

Normally posts like these are an attempt to share your views and find out other peoples. It is the main purpose of online forums: discussion.

I realize this, but why not just leave if you feel overwhelmed?
I mean for sure its a little strange because not everyone thinks a like in general whether you have AS, whether you have depression whether your the "NT." I don't think it makes any much of a difference 'what' you are, you think how you think. HFA's tend to normally think 'differently' but like mentioned here, not everyone wants this.

My standing point is I enjoy being eccentric but for fair arguments sake I understand the point of view presented here.

He might want some reassurance that this is still a welcoming community. He doesn't seem like he *wants* to leave, but just that he feels like he might need to because he doesn't feel like he fits in.

Because sometimes you don't like various elements of something but there is still a small part that makes it worthwhile. Maybe the thread starter started the discussion in an effort to help decide whether to stay or not; to see if there was also a moderate element of posters here.

JakeG, LostInSpace,
I see your views, thank you.

My words may have been interpreted as attacking,
I have added to my post to reassure this isn't the case.

That's cool. I am glad you don't feel the peer pressure to act in a certain way on here; just continue to be yourself, I know there are plenty of moderate and mainstream people on here who don't buy into the cliqueiness of the place...thats why I continue to post here.
