Hello All

I'm very pleased to be signing in (if this effort is successful - I'm not brilliant with this technology; I shall be re-visiting the Dino Cafe directly), and hope that I shall be able to contribute positively to the group.

I'm 48, was diagnosed AS last Autumn; am confused, glad but not proud to have a title at last to help explain myself - and feel at home (a peculiar but welcome feeling for an eccentric who has been generally tolerated by those around me) here.

Anyway, sorry to be wittering on, but I hope you will understand - I'm scared.

I am also a newcomer and there is nothing to be scared about. I, too, feel right at home here. Who knows? Some of the people here might be able to relate to you. Many thanks to all of you who have taken the time to reply and others that have read my first effort; with people joining every five minutes or so I was afraid of being missed out (with consequent feelings of embarrassment and humiliation as usual).

Can someone advise - I'd like to tell you something about myself but which forum/thread should I use. is there a specific home for these pen-portraits or can I post it here (I'll edit it one hundred times before posting though and hope anyway to be more concise after practise).

What importance should I place on the "sticky" threads?

Finally, I should have really said that I was awfully apprehensive about signing on, (particularly about not upsetting others with thoughtless remarks), anxious rather than scared.

Thanks again, you have already lightened my burden and are a great tonic to me; although I am not terribly self-confident (hardly at all), as I said before I do feel very much at home here.

This is your best place for an introduction, this thread is about you. There are groups, and a mention of something like cats brings out the cat cult to meet another one. Video games are so big they break up by systems and manufacturers. It is the same with computers and music.

Stickys are just to keep some threads on top, some were once popular, but now have no new posts. It is a way of making them easy to find, other posts work their way down the page and page two is yesterdays news.

As far as upsetting other with thoughtless remarks, it is near impossible. A few are upset by someone saying, Good Morning, but most look forward to opinions other than their own.

Anxious, not self confident, fear of embarrassment and humiliation, we have that, all varities, but it fades quickly for we all have a lot in common. Most of us have trouble dealing with people and situations in real life, and many become very social here, we text well.

We rant and vent, the only stickys worth reading are posted by Alex, the short version is hate speach and personal attacks are not welcome. An exception seems to be the vast majority of humans, the neurotypical, NT, which are often spoken of badly, but just like bashing minorities, there are good ones and bad ones in all groups.

The other threads start with a topic, and it does make sense to stick with it, or near it, or related, or something, sometimes it changes for the better and spawns new threads.

Most posts are short, a conversation in text, others longer, an essay on a point, some seek agreement, others need an opposing view to bring out the truth. Read around and you will find what suits you.

Your point of view is as valid as any, and where we agree on one thing, we are just as likely to disagree on the next. Humans are that way, and there is no standard aspie, on this whole site I have yet to find a pair.

We were all somewhat rejected by the world, so we do better here. Others have the same problems, and you can learn more reading than living through the same.

Some is great discovery, some is me to, and some is what?

You will find yourself here in many mixes.
