I think his being a little "swarthy" had something to do with it:

We must be vigilant against the agents of Al-Gebra and their weapons of math instruction!

Quote:
At New York’s Kennedy airport today, a person later discovered to be a public school teacher, was arrested trying to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a drafting triangle, a compass, and a calculator.

During a press conference the Attorney General said he believed the man was a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement and the FBI intends to charge him with transporting weapons of math instruction.

I realize that you can't totally blame folks for being jumpy these days, but still....

Get a grip folks! The guy was busy with something, and he was writing equations with funny looking Greek letters, and didn't have time for small talk. How do you get from that ..to "terrorist"?

He wasn't "white".

What makes all the above especially lulzy is that algebra was invented by a Muslim, during the height of the Islamic Empire. "al-jebr" means something like "the reduction", since algebra is all about reducing complex problems into simple answers.

Exactly. All of those learned words with "al" in front: algebra, algorithm, and alchemy, Aldeberan (name of a particular star), are from Arabic. "Average" comes from Arabic as well.

But when Trump gets into the White House he will banish ALL of that Arab stuff from our shores, and keep us all safe from mathematics!

Well, you know, math and education are dangerous things... They allow people to think for themselves

Well, aside from better life conditions they did give us the atomic bomb.

Oh, didn't you know that if a person is swarthy of skin and has black curly hair, then he simply must be Middle-Eastern, and therefore he simply must also be a terrorist!

 No, I don't believe it, either ...

If it had been Bill Nye, Stephen Hawking, or even Neil deGrasse Tyson working out those equations, no one would have batted an eye.

Caucasian is a race. White is a complexion.

Humans have a flaw. As a species we always need something to attack - if not physically, then with words.

If it's not the questionable foreigner doing differential equations, then it's the "stupid bimbo" sitting next to him. Just scroll through the comments.

What happens when there is nothing left to attack? What do we do then?

Basic mathematics frightens the average person so complex math may as well be a bomb making recipe...the stupidity of the general public knows no bounds...
