Just a quick poll for Aspies (diagnosed or self-diagnosed) to see how common shyness is with people on this site. Personally, my shyness depends on who I'm with, but it ranges from severe (non-verbal) to mild (sometimes stuttering with words).

I'm mostly shy, since I'm not a social person and I have difficulty talking to people sometimes [although if it's about something I like, I can ramble on for hours].

Since childhood, I've been told off for being too quiet. Even if I'm really interested in a conversation, I tend to listen more than contribute (unless I've been drinking, in which case I contribute a lot more).

If I know the person long enough, I tend to be more comfortable around them (even if I don't trust them). But around new people, I am very quiet and have a hard time talking. I am also very introverted; I don't go out of my way to socialize with people.

All though you would not know it on WP, I am this way in real life.

I'm pretty shy, but it is worse in some situations than others. In college classes, I can be painfully shy, but I'd work, I'm only slightly shy. With family and friends, I will never stop talking. Which can be a problem with family because they will never stop talking either.

My shyness differs from NTs shyness in a few ways, many shy NTs are uncomfortable speaking in front of large groups, I'm not like this, but when it comes to speaking in small groups of strangers, I've very uncomfortable. In school, I am more comfortable in a class discussion than a small group discussion. This seems to be the opposite of what some NTs experience. I think it's because class discussions are structured, whereas small group discussions are not.

Not shy. Talkative. But if I'm paired up with someone shy I might not be able to drive the convo anyway. And if paired up with someone talkative I might not be given a chance to talk. Also I hate to intrude so I don't ask personal stuff cuz I hate when people ask me that. But at the same time I might say things that are a little "off" which makes people think I am funny. Oddly enough in a positive way. I don't mind, I could self censor but I don't wanna.

But I hate approaching people. Even if I'm not shy per se I'm never sure what to say to catch someone's attention. Also I have a hard time with raising my voice if needed, I'm not good at it. Which is odd, because I can sing quite loudly. LOL. And not shy to sing like many people are.
