Hi Everybody

I don’t know what to write, I figured it would be a good idea to introduce myself somehow.

Basic facts about myself:

First name: Thomas
Age: 20
Gender: male
Location: currently in Turku, Finland
Occupation: I study history at Åbo Akademi (a university in Turku)
First language: Swedish
Other languages I speak: Finnish, English, and German
Languages I can use to some extent: Runic Swedish, Old Icelandic, Old English, Gothic, a little Latin, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, a little Latvian…then my interest in languages started to fade…
Religion: Lutheran, I have been generally obsessed about theology now three years

My background story:

I have always been very shy and I had a rather weird childhood. I never understood sarcasm, lying or irony. I never lied, which gave me a reputation about being a very honest and straightforward person, hated by some and loved by others who found my brutal honesty appealing…That is a reputation I still have. I am the honest and mysterious guy who speaks very little and always wears black clothes

Since I didn’t understand how to respond to insults and violence I was bullied a lot as a child. I did notice, however, that my unwillingness to use violence had a strange effect on people; they were sometimes reluctant to beat someone who didn’t hit back. Unaware of Gandhi I used my own variant of passive resistance…with mixed results. I suffered a lot of anxiety as a child, was depressed and broke down many times as a teenager…so much for non-violence…

When I was 18 I moved from home to study here in Turku. Since then I have frequently suffered from depressions, I have felt extremely lost and confused without ever understanding why. After a few breakdowns and a long period of depression I began searching for answers, I found Asperger syndrome and this site. That is enough of an answer for me.

My diagnosis:

I did four different self diagnostic tests; they all showed the same results: I am probably an aspie.
I have never dared to get any official diagnosis however, primarily because I have no idea how my few friends and many relatives would react. I don’t know where to get a diagnosis, I am sometimes afraid that a positive diagnosis would break my low self esteem. Besides I don’t like psychiatrists and I don’t trust them, I am afraid to go etc. etc.

Welcome Dreamer2,

Nothing else is needed, you found your way here. What can anyone else say, we ran the same tests and we think you have something we cannot understand, give us money.

Here we know better, aspie is, but beyound that we are all very different, a range of personalities and interests. We have to, we have a whole planet to fill.

We know all that aspie in the world stuff, but what are you studying? What hobbies?

We are known for deep interests.

Thanx for the warm welcome! :)

I have two very deep interests:
1. History of Ancient Rome and Medieval Europe
2. Judeo Christian theology

…those two subjects are easy to combine and study at the university as well as at home.
