Quote:
Witnesses described a scene of humiliation as nearby beachgoers shouted their support for the police officers, and told the woman "to go home," while her children sobbed, the AFP reported.

I can't believe the police forced her to remove her clothing on the beach.

I couldn't believe this either - the burkini was invented as a tool for bridging the racial divide at Sydney's beaches after the Cronulla Race Riots - it's no symbol of oppression, quite the opposite in fact. Glad they saw sense and overruled the ban.

I'm glad they lifted the ban too. Wearing a burkini hurts no one, so I don't see why it should be banned.

Nobody I know of in a burkini has carried out a terrorist attack. Although after all the publicity somebody will probably try it.

Personally I think they should market this "burkini" worldwide. I would wear one in a jiffy if I had to go to the beach. Already my bathing suit is a full-piece with an attached skirt. I'm not 20 anymore. Why should you have to be Muslim to wear this?

That is the whole thing one doesn't have to be a muslim to wear it, another reason I thought it was stupid to ban it. I figured it might get lifted...

I think it's a fantastic idea.

Thank heaven! I sometimes wonder what's wrong with France - they are the people who are comfortable with lots of skin showing - but to make it mandatory!

What if I want to swim in a leotard, T-shirt, and kerchief? For that matter, it's probably healthier if the clothes are sun-resistant. One ad tells me the sun will damage me in 5 minutes (blue eyes) and the next tells me to hide my skin from the sun altogether.

I would like to see proof that burkinis are oppressive.

You don't have to be - but if you do wear one, you'll probably be treated like a Muslim. And what was Donald Trump planning to do with Muslims?

In fact quite a few of the French coastal towns that have banned the burkini are defying the court ruling and keeping the ban in place. France has got this badly wrong, but other countries are also thinking of banning certain Islamic dress. Madness.

Ridiculous! The burkini is an awesome idea. I want this one:

That women's covering themselves on the beach to their own comfort is an issue for anyone is disconcerting. This is a religious issue, a women's issue and an issue of individual rights. But it'll come down to security. Too many places to hide weapons. So maybe we'll all have to start walking around naked to prove we're not a security risk.
