I know this is a common subject, but it's something I've been dealing with again lately. My problem isn't that I am afraid to assert myself, but after the fact I go into panic mode... Did I handle that correctly, how can I defend myself clearly, what are the repercussions if any?

I suspect this is strongly PTSD related, but it would be nice to not go into panic mode each and every time? Any advice or suggestions? BTW, I'm already on SSRIs and therapy hasn't been very beneficial to me in the past. :?

Shrug, I thought it was part of my OCD. I don't know if my reaction qualifies as panic, but I do find myself obsessing over the situation over and over, which isn't productive beyond the first review. If I review the situation with another person, or even just put the thoughts in writing, I tend to find it a little easier to let go of some of the anxiety. I had this experience just this week with an office politics situation. Ultimately, the only way I can hope to get any further answers is to ask the person who frustrated me, why they did what they did, stressing that "I'm confused" so they don't take my question as an attack.

Hello, this describes me also. And I replay conversations over and over trying to decide if I was ok or not if I was out of line. I also worry about if I stand up for myself will there be repercussions --this is totally anxiety and might in my case be due to long term bullying I experienced and some abuse.

I think this may be common in most people. I certainly get anxious in certain situations when I need to be confrontational.
