Medical record and proof of diagnosis help
Hello all.
After years of failing in the job world and the lengthy unemployment I'm struggling in now I think I have decided it's time to take the advice I've been given many times over and apply for SSI for the time being and focus on trying to get the skills needed to hold down the work I want. This isn't something Im taking lightly and is a decision im having a hard time shallowing becuase I've never wanted to admit my Asperger's to be a disability I've always tried to call it a advantage. Becuase of it and my narrow interest in emergency medicine I've gained knowledge far beyond what a EMT my age should pocess. I am know as a extremely good EMT but a crappy person becuase of my difficulty communicating and my super human ability to always say the wrong thing. While being a vol EMT this is acceptable I quickly found out several jobs ago that paid private company's would rather I was a crappy EMT and a good people person. So please give your opinions but try not to judge me to harshly for this decision
My big hurdle in starting this whole thing is where to start. When I was very small I remember going to the big children's hospital in northern VA every 6 months and I thought that would be the best place to start getting my medical records showing that I have Asperger's in the first place but this was so long ago and they only keep records for 7 years so they have nothing for me. So I don't know how else to obtain that first bit of proof. If anyone can help with ideals I'd be very thankful
I don't know how this works in other countries but in the UK your medical records usually follow you via your GP. If you are registered with a GP perhaps this would be a good place to start? Another possibility might be your insurers (I believe you all have some form of medical insurance in the US) as presumably you have had to keep them informed of your medical history, since this may be relevant to any future claims.
I don't have a GP or insurance I'm poor in a poor part of the country. Ive had to rely on RAM (remote area medical free clinic) 2 times a year for medical needs when I was younger I had a regular doctor though and it hasn't been more then 5 years scine I saw her ill try calling and seeing if she can help. Thank you for the reply
