504 plan for job?
Hello all,
I am planning to meet with my psychiatrist and my therapist to discuss revealing my autism/ Asperger’s to my employer and creating a 504 plan. I have a diagnosis (that also include ADHD and generalized anxiety disorder) from 2006. All I really need is for instructions and policies to be put in writing, that I am not penalized for asking questions, and, most importantly, that my “quirks” (inconsistent eye contact, occasional ticks, and other low key crap that I have struggled to control over the past 50 years) are recognized as part of my neurological condition. Although I have been, for ten years, a model employee –at least as far as I know and my records indicate---recently there have been abrupt and frequent changes in policies that have made me very uncomfortable and self-conscious. And I seem to have been left “out of the loop” on a few things. I’m basically trying to deal with this issue before there is any trouble.
Would anybody have experience with this kind of thing? By the way—I am a teacher, have been for 22 years. I’ve succeeded because I’ve have been, until recently, trusted and allowed to do the job in my own way.
