Reuters: U.S. senators ask government for proof Obama wiretapped Trump

Quote:
Two senior senators asked the FBI and Justice Department on Wednesday for any information they have on President Donald Trump's unsubstantiated claim that his predecessor Barack Obama wiretapped him during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.

Quote:
In their letter, Graham and Whitehouse wrote: "We would take any abuse of wiretapping authorities for political purposes very seriously."

The senators added: "We would be equally alarmed to learn that a court found enough evidence of criminal activity or contact with a foreign power to legally authorize a wiretap of President Trump, the Trump campaign, or Trump Tower.”

So if they find Trump was wiretapped, this begs the question of why, which leads to Russia. If there is no evidence then Trump will have to explain himself.

I think the crap just might hit the fan....starting March 20, when the hearings before the House Intelligence Committee commence.

Ironically, the chairman of this committee, Devin Nunes, is a staunch support of Trump and was on his transition team (i.e., the team which facilitated the smooth transfer of power from Obama to Trump).

It can go either way, really. It's possible that nothing will result from this. It's also possible that this will be the first of many hearings with many committees which, overall, might give a Watergate-type impression.

I would stay tuned. This could get VERY interesting.

Russia may be the reason why there was a wiretap, but that doesn't mean the wiretap picked up anything having to do with Russia.

If there is no evidence of a wiretap, then it will be a situation where Trump was given incorrect information.

The thing is, if Trump had been chatting it Putin during the time of the alleged wiretap, it seems unlikely he would have basically announced to the world that there were recordings of him talking to Russia.

If there had been a wiretapping of the phones in Trump Tower, that would basically mean a break in to Trump's residence, very similar to the Watergate hotel room break in. Which would mean if true, that Obama is in big trouble. And there's also the question of whether or not Clinton was in on it.

Personally I think all these attempts to connect Trump with Russia overall, are going to end up backfiring on several people and they are going to be in a lot of trouble.

1. Still no evidence of a wiretap

2. The president doesn't have the ability to order wiretaps

I thought the wiretap allegation was one of Trump's attempts at humour. Doesn't seem so much to be the case now.

1. It hasn't been investigated yet.

2. What about Nixon wiretapping the Democratic party's headquarters?

As I understand it, Trump got the notion in his head that Obama had been phone tapping him from some loon on Breitbart, not from any branch of American intelligence - - which Trump, as President, commands!

What, that Obama spied on Trump through his TV?

The entire claim came from Trump's imagination. We're not investigating Trump's sexual assaults and those had more evidence than this. Nixon's campaign staff was behind Watergate. An arrest for a break-in led to the investigation in this case.

If their is one good thing that comes out of all of this is that more people are beginning to tune into politics. For me and those around me their has been a sudden explosion of awareness just in over the last 2 years. The world needs to feel this.

Maybe it picked up another Billy Bush conversation.

I think Trump could possibly be that stupid.

Clinton and Obama breaking into Trump Tower to set up a surveillance system. I'm going to assume this is one of your satirical statements.

The Billy Bush convo went nowhere the first time. Anything similar will likely have a similar effect.

Given, heard, whatever.

Apparently from what the left says he's a stupid-mastermind.

That scenario would be satirical. However, obviously someone would have been assigned the task. Your version would make a great SNL sketch though.

By the way, I really appreciate the special interest you've taken in my posts

I thought so too. Or a cartoon graphic. Wish I could draw.

No worries. I'm wondering if you intend to study politics in post-secondary (I'm figuring you're in high school right now.)

Special ed highschool since I can't handle a mainstream curriculum. And I wouldn't be interested in taking political science as a major. Law maybe if I ever get that far.
