I was just wondering, what makes someone a troll?

I tried to be as nice as I could possibly be recently to the member who had recently repeatedly posted, "You are an idiot!" That is my nature. I'm not very mean. Also, I happen to think that the word "troll" is not a very good word to describe these people. This is because I cannot believe there are people whose only intention is to do that! They should be nice, for once! I also happen to think it is not very nice to ban people like that. They should get a second chance and they should know to apologize if they do such actions! I also think it's unfortunate that the old moderators here were banned because they tried to show too much power.

However, I'm happy that this site's mission has remained the same even though it has changed. Most importantly though, why are these dangerous people on this site and why would they do such mean things?

Comments made with the intention of illiciting a negative response, done repeatedly in a single thread, and done in multiple threads. Often with the hope of breaking someone down.

That is trolling, though the person may not be a troll.

I personally think it wasn't very fair for all the members showing "too much power" to be banned.

Alex asked me in one thread, "Are you a troll?" and I told him no.

He had made me a moderator a few months ago, and then I told him I didn't want to be a moderator anymore because I didn't have time. Then, I asked him if I could be a moderator again, and he hasn't done that.

I wonder if he doesn't remember asking me.

It isn't always easy to tell here if someone is intentionally trolling, or if they merely appear to be a troll even though it is completely unintentional.

I'm not surprised that he hasn't responded, I gave up trying to contact him quite a while ago.

If I have a serious problem with this website, who can I contact?

The current moderators can do a limited amount. Past that, I don't really know if there is anyone you can contact.

Be careful with your choice of word placement.

But, people aren't always happy and cheerful,
and sometimes your posts seem to have nothing
to do with the topic at hand. This combination
makes people grow exasperated with you.

In the case of "You are an idiot" posts, I think that is spamming.

Why do you say I should be careful with my choice of word placement?

I just misread your post.

Read the quoted portion.

As to the topical question:

Is a good example of trolling with no point.

Right, posting the same image, or line of text, basic repetition with no real "reacting" to responses is spamming. Similar intent, irritate people, but more crude, and at times more annoying. (And at times less)

Inelegant spam though.
True spam is the overflowing
of what would seem reasonable
posts, if not for their quantity.
