seeing some people on here are into comics has reminded me of my teenage obsession with collecting DC comics. I grew up in a large town in the midlands of England but for some reason I got really into DC comics and bought everything I could find in the local newsagents.

My collection fell into two sides really, on the one hand there was the superhero stuff - Superman (natch!), Superboy, Batman, Justice League of America, Legion of Superheroes, Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow etc - and then there was the spooky stuff, which was really my favourite - House of Mystery, House of Secrets, Witching Hour, Swamp Thing (see comic book characters topic). Not forgetting Plop of course!

DC rocked but there were some losers I knew who thought Marvel was cool and bought crap like Spiderman,
'Incredible' Hulk (sic), 'Fantastic' Four etc.

Never understood it myself.

I liked Superman/boy and Batman. Of course, this was a long time ago, and we didn't have that many choices. But I also grew up on TV's George Reeves as Superman.

DC is clearly better with the exception of Superman. I hate Superman.

I like a bit of both, although sometimes DC is a bit too 'super' for me... I mean almost everyone can fly and is super powerful. Marvel's heroes are a little more underpowered, and I kinda like that comic soap-opera style stuff.

Hmm, guess it depends what mood I'm in really. Generally I like the stuff thats not too sci-fi. X-men are best when they're being persecuted mutants, not when they're fighting aliens in space.

Marvel beats DC to death with a very sharp and probably super-power infused pointed stick every day of the week - everybody knows that......

I don't read comics, too expensive. I have a few old ones:
Ren & Stimpy
Terminator Vs. Robocop (full set)
The New Spiderman #1
The New X-Men #1
Batman Forever Movie Based Comic #1

I've read those, but it's been a while since I've read any comic books. I do remember the old X-Men TV show, amazing. The old Batman and Superman TV shows were good too. I miss them.

To start this thought I will go back to age 13.
I started collecting Battlestar Galactica in 1979.
The covers were 35¢ and later 40¢, in
comparison to the $2.95+ that is current cover
price.

By age 15, or 1981, I was collecting most
Marvels of the day. The ones I remeber the
most were X-Men #170's-200. Moon Knight
was another one.

By age 19, or 1985, I was collecting DC's
like "Crisis in the Infinite Universe", and
most of the titles of that day. I was in
particular interested in the goldenage
character returns and hooked up with a
established dealer and I got my self
emersed into the business of selling
10¢ covers, Big Little Books, Pulp Magazines
and left most new titles alone.

By age 24, or 1990, I left that aspect of
collecting and returned to DC since
they weren't tweaking too much with
their established characters(G.A Green
Latern, S.A Green Latern, ect...)
and started collecting Radio Show based
characters like "The Shadow Strikes",
re-make of "The Green Hornet", and
stayed with my Gold Key TV titles,
and 10¢ covers.

I still blend myself into this area, but now
collect flea market level(Boxes of xyz at $10
with 10-50 issues with and without covers)
And what I didn't like I gave to the Goodwill.

This is how I see myself collecting comics.
It is a hobby, should have stayed a hobby,
and remains a hobby.

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter

I have a deep love of anti-heros. They seem more human to me. Gods are gods, heroes are exceptions, but anti-heroes are humans. They are achievable. Any comic hero which is an anti-hero i like.

Well, I love Sandman, Batman and Animal Man. But Jack Kirby's art for 60s Marvel was awesome. I'm gonna say neither because Brit comics like 2000AD beat them both.

Yes I also love anti-heroes, and I agree with you about them being more realistic. Thats probably why I prefer Marvel.

I've never been much of a fan of 2000AD though. Hellboy is okay.

I'm a big comic book fan. I like both DC and marvel. However, DC for the past 3 years has had better storylines. Now that the marvel House of M is out it may surpass DC. who knows

Much as I love Dc, I think Marvel takes the cake. Spider-man, dare devil, X men, the Four, they are all such cool, real characters.

I don't really like comics. Too expensive, same with manga. I really wish they'd make a comic with the villain as the main character. I'd like to see how they put together evil plans, get henchmen, secret lair(etc.) explained.

There are a few comics starring the villain, there is one short series coming out this month called "Lex Luthor Man Of Steel".
