Tonight on Jeopardy!, a dream comes true for a local Georgia Tech student.

A graduate of Auburn University, Kelvin Smith is pursuing his PhD in chemical and biomolecular engineering at the institute. After years of preparation, he’ll take the stage as a contestant.

“It really started when I was 14,” Smith said. “You could say my best subjects are really in the academic round. Of course, math and science, just something you would learn in school because I can adapt pretty well with that.”

His weakest subjects, he said, are in pop culture.

“I don’t go out a lot so that’s a little bit harder for me,” Smith said.

How awesome is this? God I wish I had this guy's parents who cared enough about him to get him evaluated as such a young age. My life might have turned out better than it did.

Good luck to Kelvin! I used to like watching Jeopardy until the focus shifted too much to pop culture. I would have a hard time with that, too.

I wish Kelvin luck, too.

I would bet many other Aspies have previously competed on Jeopardy! (Jeopardy! is actually the real name of the show).

I go back to when Art Fleming was the host.

Grad Student With Autism Fulfills Dream to Compete on 'Jeopardy!'

Quote:
During the contestant introduction segment of the show, Smith told Trebek that he has a hard time with social interactions and reading social cues as a result of Asperger’s.

He credited his mother and grandfather for helping him concentrate more on his strengths.

“I encourage people to embrace differences and to be winners," he said.

“Good for you,” Trebek told him. “You are a winner. You got here.”

Smith wound up finishing in third place during Thursday’s Jeopardy! broadcast.
