I wonder why peer friendships have to involve so much competition. In my age group, it's through our kids.

I think it depends on the culture you live in and the specific friends you have. I have virtually no competition with my friends, we all congratulate each other for what we do etc

It’s because of the competitive nature of people, alas.

I always assumed that this is only the case until I am 30 as a biological thing to attract the best woman and procreate ( competition to filter the bad genes out and support those with the better genes) . Looks like the competition will never end :? Am fed up with that :(

I don't bother with most people for this reason.

I'm not in the same place in life as other people my age so I don't have anything in common with them. Most people my age compete through their small children and spouses and careers.

The trick to have a relaxed live is to not expect to much from yourself, this only results in unnecessary stress.
Does one with a nice car and home but lots of difficult work really have a better live than someone that has a normal short job and has lots of free time to play video games?
I want to be the second guy

But we need persons that do very much work to raise their status, otherwise the society might collapse
