Hello. This is a very short post. My name is Stephen, and I have used Facebook and other social media for over 10 years, so I'm very familiar with some of it. I'm just wondering if the long chains of comment threads found on many websites are healthy. And, if you think about it, they are like party lines of the mid-to-late 20th century. However, people generally took advantage of the party line system to have fun and meet people they might not otherwise have known. I feel that comment threads are unhealthy because they lead to a semi-social system in which everybody is looking "behind their backs." Not literally, of course, but figuratively. That is not healthy. In Ray Bradbury's novel, "Fahrenheit 451", people's homes and apartments were retrofitted with large video and stereo systems in their walls, giving the uneducated residents reason to believe that their relatives were partying and having a good time in other parts of the homes/apartments. In reality, the messed-up government probably got rid of these "relatives" when it was deemed that they could not care for themselves. Now, that's a really extreme example, but also one way of perceiving this social media conundrum.
