Why do most users on this site think an Autistic political party is a bad idea?

Because it's identity politics by 'disability'. Make your case peacefully within and outside political parties. You are in a real democracy welcome to set one up to make your case.

All you really want is a bit of consideration.

Why don't you tell us why it would be a good idea?

I haven't given it any thought...
Why don't you make a poll?

Because there's a wide spectrum of political belief amongst autistic people.

As you can see right here on WrongPlanet.

However...
My recent poll about political affinities suggests what I suspected...
There is much greater liberalism here...

I am more interested in revitalising real debate. My ideology stems from classical liberal roots but terminology often divides.

All politics is "identity politics", but creating a political party consisting of folks who are (a) less than two percent of the population, and (b) are divided and have little more in common than a disability label, ...what exactly do you imagine that would accomplish?

Well, yes and no. It depends on how you feel.

Apparently my pan-UK unionism is a problem. I like it. That is identity politics.

Most socialists already care about the rights of people on the autism spectrum.

And most autists either feel comfortable with existing, non-single issue parties or are unlikely to fit well together within a single party after they actually start discussing their political views.

Who are you addressing this question to?

The title of the thread asks "why do you not like an Autistic political party?", and I'm inferring that you're addressing everyone on this forum as if we're a collective, based on the question in your OP.

Are you in favour of political parties for other identities too?

Which party would a gay, black, Jewish person with an autism spectrum disorder join?

^i think he opened another thread on the subject some time ago and it got a negative response.

simply put, an autistic political party wouldn't be a good idea because autistics are as ideologically diverse and divided as the rest of the general population. three minutes on this site would tell you that. we have very little in common other than some symptoms and a label, there's no real sense of solidarity that i can see.

That depends on what their philosophy is.

In all fairness (if his profile is correct) he/she is only 14.

Can be forgiven for (a) thinking that his idea is a good idea, and (b)be forgiven for not taking up the burden of proof. I have been trying to get the OP to state why he thinks its a good idea, before he even starts to asks US why we are not enthused by the idea. But that was before I noticed that he was just a junior high kid.

To the OP:it just wouldnt work out the way that you imagine. All autistics band together and form a political party, and then suddenly that party is in the same weight class as the Dems. and the GOP (or Labour, and Conservative, in the UK, or whatever the parties are in whatever country you're in). And then that party does the bidding of autistics going toe to toe with the other two parties, and gives autistics power.

We are less than two percent of the population. So a party consisting of only autistics could (even in theory) only wield power on the scale of any other fringe party (like the Greens, or the Libertarians). And in reality it could never even have THAT tiny amount of power because you could never organize autistics into a united voting bloc like that.
