What species do you have, names? How did you get them?

I have three cats, Princessa, Amiga, and Hazelnut. Found Hazelnut when she was a five weeks old kitten. She was sick, so I took her in, thinking when she'd get better, I'd put her back in the street. But then I just fell in love with her and kept her.

The other two were feral cats that leapt in the window after smelling the cats' food I'd put out for Hazelnut (I live on the first floor), so I let them stay, and they now sleep on my sofa all day.

The current one and the one before that were rescue animals. Once they got over their fear, and developed a feeling of safety and security, which took time, they became the best animal companions I have ever had, very loyal and affectionate, though I am the only person they trusted and related to. When I am too old to be able to guarantee any newcomers a long life with me, I will foster kittens for the Society for the Protection of Animals until they find permanent homes. I have had both dogs and cats, but have only cats now, as walking dogs is too difficult for me now. I regard them as very close friends rather than pets, and each one has had its own unique personality. I can't imagine a life without animal presence in it, that wouldn't be a life as far as I am concerned, I love animals.

We only have one pet now, a cat named Gypsy. My girlfriend adopted Gypsy from her sister who had got her & a male kitten from people who were moving to a place that didn't allow pets. Cass's sister already had two cats that were really too much for her but she adopted both kittens because she doesn't really think things through. Cass had lost her cat that she had for about 18 years due to kidney problems & her sister was wanting to give Gypsy away. She was also keeping Gypsy in a room with the male kitten cuz they weren't getting along with her other two cats & neither kitten was fixed. Cass found out that her sister was planning to give Gypsy to the Humane Society because she got pregnant & her sister didn't want to deal with it. Cass decided to adopt Gypsy & Cass gave two of her kittens to the Humane Society & Cass's parents adopted the other one.

I had also adopted our guinea pig from Cass's sister that we lost a few months ago. I lost my chinchilla a few years ago that I had for 9 years cuz of some illness. Cass's sister had SweetPete for a couple years & was wanting to get rid of him cuz she had recently got a 2nd cat & found it too much to handle so I decided to adopt him. He probably died from an upper respiratory infection that had killed our rabbit a few months before that we only had for 3 months.

3 were animals we were just looking after, but the owner never bothered to collect them
3 were private replacement animals from acquaintances or acquaintances of acquaintances.
9 came from pet stores
1 was bought from a non intended 'breeder'

I have no pets now.

Virtually all of mine have been rescues. Only one of our dogs ever was from a breeder, and she had a lot of health problems. All of our rescue animals went on to live long lives, an average of fifteen years. Our youngest was ten (the breeder dachshund, Heidi) and the oldest was 20 (my Siamese mix, Samantha). I have had pets for over 40 years and could write a book about them. (I actually did write one, but it was never published).

Currently, I just have feral cats. Our oldest, Faber, a Siamese, is seventeen years of age.

My cat Kiki was adopted from the local animal shelter; her sister was adopted before she was, and the woman who volunteers there said that she was a barn kitten. Our second cat Molly is the last one of her litter to be adopted; my SIL found her while she was volunteering at an animal clinic, and it appeared that her previous owner had abandoned her. So we ended up adopting her.

My late cat Sammy was an interesting case. He was abandoned by his mother when he was just a day old, and we found him mewling in the backyard. He was bottle-fed every hour, and we trained him how to do certain feline behavior, with a little help from the cats we had back then. Sammy turned out to be spunky, and was so social that he allowed us to take many pictures of him. He lived to be 13, and passed from heart problems last year.

When I get a bigger yacht, I want a Chinese Crested. I will get one from a quality breeder.

We're currently on our 3rd dog. All of our dogs were bought from breeders.

My brother also used to have a hamster and three mice (at different points in time), which were bought from pet stores.

I have had five dogs and, all told, between pets and ferals, over 20 cats, in my lifetime.

The greatest number of pets I ever had at one time was seven, on two occasions. Our second set of seven all had names beginning with P (one dog, six cats).

A post about my pets would probably win the prize for the longest ever made on WP. As I said, I could write a book-and need to rewrite it to reflect pets and feral cats I acquired since the original book was written in 2007. I would have to really think about it and list all of the animals I have had since I was a little girl.

I have a cat called Kiwi and I got her from a guy who posted an ad on facebook giving her away. It was a fun post, he took a picture of her in a sandwich box and asked for who wanted a sandwich. She was so cute. His grandmother had found the cat-mother and 3 babies near the river, she wanted to keep the mom and was trying to find home for the babies.

I've had several cats, 2 dogs, a hamster, a guinea pig, and a ferret (not all at-one-time, and I've always wanted a chinchilla and/or a rabbit). I got all of the larger animals at shelters, or from someone who was giving it, away----and the smaller animals, I got at pet stores.

The ultimate, IMO, would be to have horses----I LOVE horses----and, to live in a huge wide-open space, with lots of different types of animals (and, to be about 30 years younger, so I could take care of all of them)! !

I got Lucky, my older cat, one evening in February at the mall where the SPCA had cats up for adoption. She was a beautiful grey-and-white tabby around 5 months old, and I just fell in love. I knew I was being a bit impulsive suddenly paying around 60$ for and adopting a new cat, but I had been thinking of getting a new pet for a while and I bought some basic stuff like food and litter right after I got her, and I was sure I could work something out with my parents, also it was around my birthday at the time. Also the money I paid covered for her first trip to the vet, her shots and deworming. The very next day I went to the flea market at the other mall near my apartment. When I was leaving through the back entrance a guy goes past me, and I hear a little "meow", and I notice he's holding a small black and white cat, still a kitten really. I figured maybe he was planning to sell the cat at the flea market or something, but then I hear a couple of teen girls cursing and sounding very upset. The guy just walks by again and says something about the girls being mad at him because he "dropped off" the cat. I go over to the girls and they're holding the cat and crying and I end up taking him even though I said I just got a cat and shouldn't get another one. So I'm carrying this poor little cat that was cruelly abandoned back to my apartment trying not to fall with him but I pretty well already had. I was going to find a new owner for him but he was such a sweet, friendly, playful little thing I ended up keeping him. I named him Mischief. Lucky might have been a more suitable name, but it was already taken. :) I took him to the vet and except for some really bad ear mites he was healthy, and I got him treated like I did with Lucky. In spite of that trauma he must have suffered he's always been a very friendly and affectionate cat, never acts cross or angry, and he's probably less lonely with Lucky around when I'm not home.

I've had other pets in the past but the story of how I got Mischief is definitely the most moving. Some people have told me I must be his guardian angel.

Most of our dogs and cats have been rescues or given to us by family friends who could no longer care for them. One of our old dogs, Shadow, was found by my mom as she was driving home from work and he was out playing in traffic. My mom picked him up and tried to find his owner but never did so she ended up keeping him.

I have one pet. He's a dog and his name is Atari. Can you guess what his name is named after? Well I adopted him from the pound back in September of 2015 for $65. Most of that covered him being neutered. But I love my Atari. He's a good boy.Image
