Hello all, new member here. I am wondering if any fellow members on the spectrum have outdoor jobs that they find enjoyable and rewarding.
A bit about me and where I'm at first - I'm 29 years old, spent several years pursuing education in math, then switched to mapping and surveying, where I'm currently working as a survey assistant surveying homes (measuring and drawing properties) with all the working being outdoors. I very much enjoy the outdoor aspect of the work, in fact I would like to always work outdoors. However, the work involves dealing with a lot of data in a short time period and figuring out how to best represent and draw everything on a property. This is expected to be completed very quickly. Whether I am doing the drawing, or working on other aspects of the work, I am finding the work to be very unpredictable and ever changing. As one of my colleagues put it, "there is no routine job, it's all about developing your tool belt and knowing which tool to use when".
In past jobs, I have thrived on repetitive tasks, finding that I do well when I can focus on one thing and get it done. I have also read that people on the spectrum tend to prefer task based work, and I can definitely relate to this. I enjoy having a clear task where I can track my progress and have a clear end goal.
Is there anyone here that works outdoors and finds their work to be repetitive and task based? I am currently trying to get a position in mail delivery or utility meter reading, but would like to hear about other options out there.
Thanks a ton to anyone who can provide any insight!
