Mysterio would've been in Spider-Man 4 and played by Bruce Campbell if production wasn't cancelled in favor of a reboot.

A reboot franchise that got booted when another reboot from the MCU came forth.

All the same, Bruce Campbell as Mysterio? That actually would have been worth seeing over Jake Gyllenhaal.

Finding out about Bruce Campbell did make it feel a little bad for anything in comparison. What I do know about Mysterio, does make me really look forward to the character. I am reminded of him in the Spiderman 2 game. Vulture turned out great, so I am looking forward to with what they might do.

Perhaps this will breathe new life into a villain like Mysterio who isn't well known.
