I saw an interview with the main cast (after the guy who played Erlich left the show) and it turns out that many of Jared's zany one liners about his previous (very sketchy) life are improvised by Zach Woods. It made me love him that much more, because those unprompted little details about his old life that he drops here and there are genius.
He really is the best thing about that show. They are all talented and funny--I like Thomas Middleditch too, and have extra affection for him for appearing in one of the Footnotes episodes of the podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno--but Zach Woods is my favourite and has some of the best comic timing and instincts I've seen in a while.
Also, in that interview I watched they all seemed like genuinely nice guys who really liked each other and got along well, and I think that translates onto the screen and is part of what makes the show work so well.
I absolutely agree! I am actually sad that i had never heard of it until a few months ago, and as soon as found out that a show like this exists, i binged all 5 seasons within four days. I have never laughed so loudly about anything. And all of those reactions were due to Jared's lines, like the infamous gold chain joke, the little bits about his past, speaking (almost proper) German during his sleep, his definition of home, etc. There are too many to count and i seriously don't want to spoil anything for the people that haven't seen any episode of this show yet
It is hard to find good comedians with great timing nowadays, but this guy seriously convinces me in every role he accepts. Even in 'The Office' you could see that he has good comedic timing and a lot of chemistry with the rest of the cast, but in this show he truly knocked it out of the park.
