I've always enjoyed movies about writers and writing, especially bios. Anyone else? Here are a few of mine -

The Whole Wide World - About the father of the American heroic fantasy genre, Robert E. Howard.

Naked Lunch - Fictionalized account of the writing of William Burroughs' book of the same name.

Kill Your Darlings
- Based on fact account of the beginning of the Beat literary movement, and the murder behind it all.

Beat
- Story of the two murders at the heart of the Beat literary movement (geez, a lot of murders in that circle!).

I should add Infamous, which covers the same subject as Capote.

The Hours - it’s about Virginia Woolf and her novel Mrs. Dalloway.

Seven Psychopaths was great

I re-watch The Words from time to time too, one of my favorite movies but perhaps it's nostalgia

Strangely enough, think I might've found the whole movie on Youtube

Hemmingway and Gellhorn

An HBO movie about the relationship between Ernest Hemingway and Journalist Martha Gellhorn (played by Nicole Kidman). A good portrait of both writers, and of their times (crises hotspots like Spain and China on the eve of WWII).

Being Flynn with Paul Dano and Robert DeNiro.

Both father and son (DeNiro and Dano) are writers but the movie is more about their estranged relationship via a homeless shelter than it is about their writing.

where the buffalo roam - bill murray playing hunter thompson! (it's actually rather mediocre, at least I remember it to be)

also:
marquis ( the one with the animal masks. the marquis de sade, in prison, having conversations with his penis. his penis has a face. it's a pretty good film. unlike Quills)

hannah ahrendt (the film. ... not that good, though)

The genre of metafiction (LINK) films applies:

* Films about writers include such films as American Splendor, and Adaptation.

* Films about films include Player, Blazing Saddles, and The Truman Show.

Metafictional works (including books about authors, and stories within stories) can be experienced as rather intriguing ironies.
