I tend to let others lead, unless I deem the leader to be incompetent then in which case I find myself taking over the position to make sure that progress is made. Otherwise, I will let them lead.

If no one else wants to lead, then I will. The end result is important to me, so if we aren't progressing and the project is not at all going to plan, then I find myself taking over and leading the group. However, I am willing to take orders if it gets us somewhere.

Usually in group projects, everyone including myself either does everything or nothing

I hate group projects

I would rather do the whole thing myself

I'm not very good at group projects, either.

I frequently find myself thinking "I can do this better" when somebody offers an idea.

Sometimes, you just have to restrain your impulses to provide feedback; you have to find a way to "get around" the other person's idea, without letting the other person know you are "getting around" it.

The cynical old guy who tries to tell the others why their ideas won't work; the one who stands by with minimal involvement while also watching the other people screw up; and the one who makes the project work after everyone else has abandoned it.

You know ... that guy ... the one who is (almost) always right, the one whom (almost) everyone wants on their projects, and the one whom (almost) everyone hates.

In skewl I would just go along with what the others wanted to do & really hoped the others wouldn't assign me much to do or anything that was difficult. I struggled with skewl related stuff a lot due to dyslexia & other related learning disabilities.
In a workplace setting I kind of take charge if I feel I'm the most qualified/best suited to. I have no problems taking orders if I feel the orders make sense. I don't like working with other people who are slacking off & I like to know what we're each supposed to do. I'm kind of a strategist due to OCD, I like having game plans. Sometimes this stuff comes off as me taking charge when I'm really not trying to.

Urgh, group work.
I can't work with group dynamics, just get incredibly frustrated with the feeling that I could have done the whole thing quicker and better by myself, but any time I try to offer advice it gets dismissed out of hand, because they haven't properly grasped my idea, it's too out of synch with theirs.
Group situations generally put me into a minor kind of meltdown (e.g. walking out) or shut-down (staying silent and offering no help) - whichever way, they end up doing the thing without me.

I was always chosen to be the secretary whether writing the minutes, designing charts for display or writing the final draft version of "their" work. I hated group work as much as you all describe, and for the same reasons. My voice was never heard and I was always frustrated by the social bits. I could have worked much more efficiently alone.

How I hate group work!

My role is to sit quietly, not contribute to discussion, suggestions or solutions (nor smalltalk) and do whatever task falls to me if I can.

One time, a group member wrote in the written report, that I didn't do anything

And I signed the report. She had the nerve to yell at me until I crossed off my name

:jester: "That was nothing!", She told me, when I correctly pointed out, that I emailed her an essay :jester:

But whatever I got a "C" in that class

Structural Engineering 103:. Conceptual structural design

Precious lil "people"

That class was required for graduation and only offered once a year

Maybe she had a grudge against me
