Starving doesn't work that well, because it'll come back when you start eating again.
IMO, best way is to cut down on processed foods, carbohydrates, and especially sugars. I know a lot of people who say that just cutting soda/pop out of their diet did wonders for their general health. It takes a lot of determination, but after you go without sugar for a while, eventually your body is supposed to stop craving it.
I've never had a weight problem, though.
I've read conflicting reviews of Eat Right 4 Your Type, where your body chemistry reacts differently to food depending on your blood type...personally, everything I've read in it seems to fit for me. He recommends that unless you're type O, you should probably eat mostly vegetarian. I'm O, so that probably explains why I get so hungry without meat.
