I've been growing my beard out from a shorter style over a period of 7 months now. No trims, and I intend to grow it probably a fair bit longer. I use washes and conditioners and brushes and wax etc so I'm certainly keeping it clean and cared for. So I'm wondering how all the women here would feel about dating a guy with a long/very long beard.

I understand that opinions will differ on the subject as different women have different tastes, but nonetheless I'd be interested to see the general consensus within the confines of this site.

In my experience, there are some girls who are into beards, but most are not.

My girlfriend prefers me to not have a beard partly because she's kind of afraid of guys with beards due to past experience with someone who had a beard. Cass still would of gave me a chance if I had a beard thou, she just prefers me not to.

I think that it's hot and makes a man look more manly. Unfortunately i've only ever dated one man who had a beard no one else have wanted to grow one. It does depend from person to person though because not all men can pull off long beards and also they gotta have the patience to care properly for it so it doesn't end up looking dull and unkempt, same for men with long hair.

The only complaint I've had about my facial hair is when I have stubble - like sandpaper apparently.

I had a long beard once but it is a sensory nightmare when it got to a certain length. I only shave when the sensory issues start and then only with a beard trimmer so it's not stubble.

That’s EXACTLY what happens to me. Most of my current students are 7th grade girls. I go a week or more between shaving and get funny looks every time I do it.

Can you grow your beard as long as the naked hermit character in Monty Python's The Life of Brian? Is that what you mean?

As an aside, my theory is that the burgeoning popularity of males growing beards within the last 5+ years is correlated directly with the multi-faceted assault on masculinity in our culture today. It's a subconscious way for such males to assert and reinforce their masculinity in a way that has not yet been condemned by society.

It's hot if done properly:

I'm personally kind of grossed out by beards, I think about them getting food caught in it

That beard reminds me of the face of a tarantula for some reason.

That's why we have napkins and sinks ;)

It starts to annoy me, though, when my mustache starts getting long enough to make eating and drinking difficult.

But the upside to that is - if you are hungry you can check your beard for snacks

I feel that mustaches are being underappreciated in the thread so I am going to leave this right here.
