Trump's Bullying of CNN's Jim Acosta Condemned
Trump's confrontation with CNN is being criticised for a very important reason
During a press conference on Wednesday Jim Acosta, chief White House correspondent for CNN, tried to ask Trump about the ongoing Russia meddling investigation.
As you might suspect, the president met these questions with insults about low ratings for CNN and the 'fake news' he claims they report on.
During the contentious exchange, Trump calls Acosta a 'rude, terrible person'.
A White House staffer tried to grab the microphone from Acosta, but he wouldn't give way. "That's enough, that's enough," the president said, before telling him to sit down and to put down his microphone.
Once again, Trump called the media the 'enemy of the people'.

The President berated two highly respected journalists and publicly calls CNN the enemy of the people.
All this just weeks after a journalist was brutally killed & a 45 supporter sent 13 bombs to public officials and CNN

trump must be held accountable if ANY journalist is threatened or harmed. He is telling his rabid base that they are ENEMIES! This is a call for violence on trump's insistence they're adversaries.

Is incitement no longer a crime in USA?

He's not accountable. He's been a rambling, hostile mess--at moments incomprehensible & untethered to reality--during this entire press conference. The WH physician ought to have injected him w/a mild sedative at one or two points. This is why we flipped the House last night.

The whole room needs to stand up and leave. This is not a man being presidential. It is an autocrat threatening the freedom of the press.

The whole interaction has drawn criticism from people online, who are wondering when, or if, Trump will ever be held accountable for his volatile words and clear aggression towards the media who are literally trying to do their job.

He got physical with a woman when refusing to relinquish his microphone.

-White privilege
-No manners

The photo clearly shows that she got physical with him. There's no indication even of him touching the Trumpian assailant.
Trump did the right thing. Not sure who the hacks are respected by but they aren't real journalists.

When I looked at the title of this thread it almost appeared to me that the title was missing a few extra words.
Trump's Bullying Of CNN's Jim Acosta Condemned [by CNN]
From my perspective it looked like Acosta was really bullying the President. In the civilized world of the forgotten past, the purpose of news men and women were to report the news. But today they feel it is their mission in life to make and shape the news.

A very unique plan. As Dr. Paul Thompson wrote, "This is the very best paper on the virus I have ever seen."
Absolute horses**t. CNN isn't Pravda (or Fox News). Acosta is a journalist not a White House stenographer; he was absolutely correct to call Trump on his BS propaganda (Trump lies 30 times a day). This is why a free press is so absolutely essential to a functioning democracy it's referred to as the Fourth Estate.
The whole White House press corps should walk out in protest.
The only "enemies of the people" in that room were standing behind the goddamned podium.

CNN was silent as Obama bombed 7 countries and tripled the war in Afghanistan. Drone bombed a US civilian and drone bombed weddings and funerals in Yemen etc. Don't make me laugh with this "free press" garbage. The CNN journalist should act like an adult and a real journalist.

The man was unprofessional and refused to give up the mic. All the woman was doing was trying to get the mic back from the man who was hogging it.
You can't have productive press conference if one person continues to hold the mic to the detriment of everyone else.

That's a blatant lie. You're as full of s**t as Trump is.
White House defends doctored Trump-Acosta clip used to justify reporter's ban - Press secretary stood by decision to revoke CNN reporter’s access and sharing video edited to make his actions more aggressive
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... press-pass
The video is cut so that it appears that Acosta tries to forcefully use his arm to push away the White House staffer’s arm, rather than use his arm to pull back the microphone.
The White House press secretary, Sarah Sanders, shared the video on Twitter on Wednesday night and said: “We stand by our decision to revoke this individual’s hard pass. We will not tolerate the inappropriate behavior clearly documented in this video.”
Despite the video’s dubious origins, Sanders doubled down in a White House statement on Thursday saying “The question is: did the reporter make contact or not? The video is clear, he did. We stand by our statement.” ...
The network said: “[The revocation] was done in retaliation for his challenging questions at today’s press conference. In an explanation, press secretary Sarah Sanders lied. She provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened. This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better. Jim Acosta has our full support.”

Trump has made several similar theatrical performances of bullying like this latest one in press conferences before this. His behaviour is calculated, not spontaneous, and his bullying is on display to the whole world. It is shameful behaviour but never a surprising one from the bully and dog-whistler-in-chief. He would have been infuriated by the Democratic success in Congress and planned his rage attack on Acosta to grab headlines and distract (as usual) as well as playing theatre to his base.
His behaviour, however low and vile (as it usually is) has to be seen in context, not as a set of unrelated individual incidents. Power has utterly corrupted what small store of moral impulse he might have once possessed. So worse is no doubt to come, and as long as the USA lets him get away with it, these attacks will become yet more aggressive, unseemly and offensive against any conventional standard of civil behaviour.
With sociopaths, you always have to look at the overall pattern, rather than how they behave on any one day or time.

So totally THIS ^.
With him continuing to degrade our democratic norms, I'm wondering how the Economist Intelligence Unit is going to rate the US's Democracy Index for this year. Already, for the past couple of years, it's marked the US down as a flawed democracy:
