How to not let things ruin your whole day?
I hate conflict, but I always seem to find it somehow. If I'm not arguing with my coworkers or my family, I'm getting into flame wars on the internet. And it always upsets me so much that I can barely think, and it'll stay with me all day so that I stay in a bad mood all day long. People say to just let it go and not think about it, but I can't do that. If something manages to engage me on an emotional level, especially a negative emotion, there's nothing I can do to get it out of my head. It's there to stay.
Today I got into a honking contest on the road with some idiot who tried to merge into the six inches of space between me and the car in front of me, and just grinned and twirled his finger around his ear at me the whole time like it was my fault. Naturally it pissed me off, and I can already tell it's going to ruin my whole day.
So simple question, how do I keep things like that from affecting me so badly?

I've definitely had many situations like that. In the case of a driver, I just tell myself they're an idiot as they drive away. I also ask myself how stuff like that is relevant to the current situation (like, say, they cut me off shortly before I get to work, so I'm in a bad mood at work--the driver's gone, the situation's over).
By having a reset routine.
Like shaking yourself off and saying, "who gives a ....?"
My reset is looking at the ceiling (didn't even realise I did this until my therapist pointed it out)
It's something you do that separates what's gone before and the rest of your day.
Whatever gives you a little bit of a mental break.
It may take a little bit of training but it does seem to help.
