The wash machine broke down yet again in this boarding house. Rumor has it the landlord might be taking the machines out for good because people dont take care of them properly. Coin laundry costs so much money and I dont know how to use the machines. I had to ask how to use them each time and the person running the laundrymat started yelling at me because she lost her patience. I asked my mom if she would do my laundry. She sounded ticked off and said she wouldnt answer that question until tonight when we arent on day time minutes.

Im still on the wait list for a group home which will take 3 to 5 years and it will also take that long for an independant support worker, which I am not on the wait list for. Id have to have my own apartment to get an independant living support worker and that scares the hell out of me because Im not sure how Id be able to afford an apartment living on disability.

Just got done talking to mom. She doesnt think the landlord will throw out the machines. She told me not to worry about it but doesnt want to do my laundry! She says I will have enough for food but I spend too muchmon clothes. So I dunno. I think the landlord will get rid of the machines and I will have to go to a stupid laundrymat. It will be hard for me :(

Well, if it comes down to using the Laundromat, perhaps you could ask your mother to assist you while you take notes on how to use the machines there for future use so you can do it on your own?

It makes me feel sad and a little angry your mother won't do your laundry. I really think she should help you. You're not in an easy situation at all. It seems the laundry situation in your boarding house isn't very reliable. And nobody wants to get shouted at when they're struggling to use an alternative.

Just a thought: there's no reason why you can't hand-wash your clothes; I did this for over a year when my washing machine had a problem and my clothes never stank. I had a coarse textured floor to my shower and just stuck the shower on while scrubbing the clothes against said floor. I even used shower gel to clean them and it never did any harm. I wear expensive dress shirts and suit trousers this was still fine for me. I still have some of the shirts in question and they haven't faded or anything else.

I hate washing clothes by hand. Too hard to wring them out. Im going to beg mom to do my laundry so I have more money for food.

People invented washing machines for a reason.....hand-washing is a very tough and time-consuming occupation.

Are these coin-operated, or card operated machines at the laundromat?

I've used both.

Ive heard of card operated ones. Those are only in certain apartment buildings in my town. I think they are easier to use than coin laundry wich is the only kind of laundry in the laundrymats around here.

Of course machines are better, but it may be that in the future you don't have a choice. If Ms Smith has someone who can do her laundry for her then that's fine, but personally, I'd rather struggle to do the job myself than rely on someone else.

How is operating coin operated ones different from operating the ones in the building?

I ask this because I honestly don't know.

Would a compromise be a solution? You bring your laundry to your mom's house and wash it yourself. You are using her machines but not her labor. Could you ask your mom about that?

I've invited my daughter to do that any time at my place. Once in a while she does, the rest of the time she uses facilities at her place.

It might be that your mother feels that doing your laundry is a step backward in your independence. So a compromise might be something she would accept.

The plan was for me to do my own laundry at moms place. She said that I probably wont be able to do it every time at her place. That sometimes I would have to go to the laundrymat. I have no idea why.

Probably what was posted above: for your own sake, she doesn't want you to become dependent upon her.

It may be that she cant really afford or doesn't want to afford the extra cost of electricity, water, & wear & tear on the machines.

I'm considered my girlfreind's caretaker/live-in-aid because she would have major problems living alone & this way my income isn't factored in to her benefits. She has a Section 8 housing voucher which pays most of her rent. There's also subsidized living places that she lived in 1st for a year. The rent for both is based off income. There's a waiting list for both options thou. Cass also has SNAP/food-stamps & food-stamps apparently does pay some live-in-aids money but the live-in-aid can not be disabled too which I am so I don't quality for that benefit. I just live here rent & utilities free. I do have money from Social Security Disability but I cant get a part time job because Cass needs me around too much so I feel like I should get paid extra for that sense I am allowed to work some & still keep my benefits. I pay lots of household things & other things for Cass sense I'm not paying rent(her rent is less than $100) & I'm not paying utilities. Anyways I'm not sure if this info helps you out any.
