I keep on looking at job descriptions and I seen one where it sounded like something I could do, a permanent position with benefits going into classrooms teaching about birds... And it's geographically close too... One major issue though... Job is just across the border of here in Windsor, Ontario! How complicated would it be to relocate to another country when geographically the place is closer to here than many places in my state!! ! This is so discouraging to me!

I didn't know you were actually in or near Detroit!

Have you ever been to Eight Mile?

The closest I've ever been to Detroit is Cleveland LOL....but my wife has been in both Windsor and Detroit.

I'll have to look up if they have special ways an American can work in Windsor, Ontario.

A number of people do commute back and forth over either northern or southern borders. You should contact the State Department (or at least its website) and see what they say. You might have to pay taxes both to Canada and to the U.S. or state, something to think about. You will also need a passport - do you have one? Or maybe there's something newer for people who frequently leave the country on business, a government ID card or something.

I'm Southwest of Detroit a bit (I live in a town roughly South of Ann Arbor) and it would still be quite a commute from here... I really haven't been to Detroit much actually in my life.

I read up on it and it's not hard for a US citizen to relocate for a job in Canada and someone like that can move to Canada and be a Canadian Permanent Resident or even duel citizenship, but my husband being a Permanent Resident I don't know what the details about that hypothetical situation would be...

I sense that it's likely your husband could become a Canadian Permanent Resident if you become one.

But I don't believe you could become one if you live in the US. You have to have spent 730 out of 1095 days actually present and living in Canada to gain Permanent Residency.
