Is there such a thing as autistic excitability/hyperactivity (not related to ADHD)? My psychiatrist mentioned something like that when I told her I think I have ASD. I have a bipolar 2 diagnosis (from her), and I wonder if the 'hypomanic' episodes she thought I was having were just me being an excitable autistic person and in a stable mood.

People on the spectrum can have difficulty with the self-regulation of emotion and/or sensory input. They also have a higher chance of having comorbid ADD/ADHD. So, it could be one or the other...or both.

Probably not helpful, but there it is.

I'm excitable but it's a side effect of my medications.

Yeah, self-regulation of emotion. I think that's it. I didn't consider that sensory issues could contribute as well. I suppose that makes sense - getting overwhelmed and all... Thanks!

No Problem...I'm still figuring this out myself, I'm in therapy, but an hour a week just isn't enough . :)
