It seems like 95% of the job postings in my area only require a high school diploma (or equivalent!), but they expect experience. How do uneducated people get experience...it's hard enough for educated people! Is this just something peculiar about my area, or have other people experienced this? Employers want poorly-educated but experienced people?

It sucks for someone like me who has degrees, but lacks experience. I imagine many on the spectrum fall into this category.

Sometimes the fine print says "bachelor's degree can substitute for experience."

What degrees do you have? And have you never done even as much as an unpaid internship?

In the San Francisco Bay area, plenty of jobs require degrees.

Almost all jobs require five to seven years experience

Even "entry level jobs"

The most requested degrees:. Computer science, engineering, bio, chem, business

Cognitive science does not mean many jobs

But I knew that when I majored in it

What is your degree in?

If it's STEM, search for that subject, under "job".

Many people in teaching and insurance, majored in subjects that were not particularly marketable

You could email the employers and ask, if you could apply, with a degree and without experience

The most they could do is ignore you

I wasn't necessarily looking for job searching advice, though I don't mean to sound ungrateful.

I was more curious about the job market in other areas

I no longer except my non-STEM degrees to get me anywhere...rather, I'm just trying to parlay my customer service experience into another job i.e. one with raises, benefits, and promotions.

Try looking for a different kind of job

Anyway I have job history

But got fired a lot of times

And no STEM degree

Cognitive science degree not worth the sunk costs, effort justification. The piece of paper it's printed on, BA

Associate of arts in accounting

Strongly desired to drop out of school and join military

Tried and failed to commit suicide, after structural engineering
