It seems to be some kind of accident, not an attack. This makes me very sad nonetheless, I hope everybody is ok and the damage won't get too devastating :(

That looks like a serious fire for such an ancient monument. I really hope this is not some sort of attack.

Authorities only said it might be linked to some renovation work they were doing. Yes, it seems to be roaring, this is heartbreaking.

They built it the better part of a millennium ago. Surely it can be rebuilt today. We must have every detail of that building documented.

Symbolism aside - and that's no small part of it either - there's just something about buildings that are so old and beautiful. Call me a sentimental old man, but the feeling can be overwhelming when you're actually there. Like a profound reverence, even if I'm neither Christian nor religious.
