Is a good idea to find a way to check the gentleman is who he says he is. If you have met him in person and got to know him then he is genuine. Is difficult between countries. My brother fell for someone he caught out. He already sent money to her in the USA a few times. Then one day she said something and it became obvious she was up to no good, and wasn't who she said she was where she text him thinking she was texting her son and said things about him which revealed her true intentions. It was a real eye opener to him! Very sad actually. They had never met.

So though there may only be a small percentage of scammers out there, be cautious just in case. We don't want you cut to pieces. Obviously it is upsetting. Just do a few checks and don't part with money....

Someone tried to scam my mum once. A lady she knows had her emails hacked into. My mum had an email from her saying she was in a desperate situation where she was stuck abroad and didn't have the money to get home. My mum rang the lady and she was in the UK and knew nothing about it!

Can people stop what?

What have you almost quit?

I’m a little bit dense at the moment because it’s getting late where I’m at, so I’m not quite sure what you mean. If you add more details, we might be better able to help you.

He bought a new phone with my help, but the phone is at custom service, he is in Asia for work, he needs $300 to get the phone, he doesn’t have any money.

He is only after your money. He would get a new Android phone for about 100$. I feel totally sorry for you but skip this bag of sh*t immediately please!

Sorry, but the general wisdom is that you don't send money to people you've never met.

In the future, if you are looking for a serious relationship. I'd suggest sticking to guys who are not more than a few hours away. Attempting to initiate and then maintain a relationship with someone you've never met who lives in a different country is asking for trouble.

As for the rest, he has a job. He shouldn't be asking a woman on disability to help him buy things.

Quoted for Truth. Even if you have met them, they may have families (and spouses!) back home who could more easily support them.

You shouldn’t be giving money to anyone if you are living on disability. You probably barely have enough to live on.

It’s a really good idea to make this a new rule for yourself, so you don’t get scammed again.

We aren’t trying to gang up on you here. Many of us have been scammed in some ways ourselves and are speaking from experience.

I certainly am!

Please, Kitty.

We are your friends. And we have experience with people trying to screw us.

We don't want you to get screwed in the same way.

$300 is lots of money to lose for anybody---no less somebody on disability.

I think you should read this, even though you won’t want to:
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2015/ ... -and-money

You can get cheap phones, even when you add an international plan to it. If he really needed a new one, he could have got a cheap one and not asked you to help pay for it.
