I very often feel that those of us in the autism spectrum are really essentially a completely different species from neurotypicals, and that aside from human biology we are completely different and can never understand one another, no matter how hard we try.

There are a few things I don't get about neurotypicals, like why most see getting drunk as a trend, but I still don't feel different from them to the extent you described. There are some people in my life I literally don't understand, but these are individual people, not an entire group of people.

Like joe said I perceive some people (stereotypically typical and atypical) that way, but they are in the minority.

There used to be a page on uncyclopedia called "Homo Spergensis", the species name for aspies. :) It was hilarious and so true. Too bad it's gone now. But anyway many people probably feel like we're a different species.

Just makes Asperger's feel more isolating than it really is.

Unless it's a joke?

Can confirm that 'roos make for excellent mounts for the annual Alpine moose hunt. Lederhosen non-optional.

If you read it it's kinda obvious that it's a joke.

Well, normally I don't take things seriously, but because I am very sensitive about my ASD, it doesn't take much for me to feel singled out when all I want is to feel like a normal human being.

It's a bit like if someone makes a joke about Indian people or black people, it is deemed as offensive and racist, even if it's a harmless joke not to be taken seriously.

Usually when I watch or read a work of science fiction where machines (artificial intelligence) dominate the world, I identify more with machines than with humans (always represented by neurotypicals).

I assumed (rightly, or wrongly) that the guy who wrote it (maybe because his article had the strong vibe of insider first hand experience) was himself an aspie/autistic. If he is ASD then it would be like Blacks comics poking fun at Blacks. Fine. If I am wrong, and he is an NT, then...well he does talk about aspies as being brainy, and so forth, so even if he were NT he is not being completely derogatory.
