Can you get mistaken for an NT because of your shape?

The stereotype is that Aspies are either thin or obese and don’t exercise. If you are average-sized or slightly overweight and look like you exercise, can that make people think you’re an NT?

Neat question!

I think most NTs will go on and assume people are NTs. Thin people are ridiculed because they don't eat enough and fat people suddenly become "ham planets" or "landwhales" even if no flippers or orbits are beginning to show.

It brings to mind another perennial topic, namely, what is the true Aspie look? By the diversity apparent on the Forum, I don't think there really IS one. Hope someone else who isn't quite as isolated will fill us in.

Anyone can be mistaken for anything, for any reason

Numerous idiots mistook me for a high school student when I was 36

Mistaken for a shoplifter

Mistaken for whatever

No, because NTs are all different shapes and sizes.

Some NTs think of Aspies as being very dorky & geeky looking like someone wearing a Star Trek tshirt & thick cokebottle glasses & isn't well groomed

Not that I know of. I used to be underweight, and now I'm chubby, so maybe there's some truth to the stereotype, but autistic people come in all shapes and sizes. I doubt that you would be mistaken for an NT purely on your body type.

I do not understand the question.

People thought I'm human because I have a shape of a human like anyone else. Because I can move and talk like one.

I'm mistaken as a poor native or some sort, because malnourishment is apparently a norm here within the mid to low class or someone in another region, for not eating more than enough on daily basis.
Or mistaken for high maintenance on a diet, but eh, I'm not fair skinned enough for that.

Or the opposite of high maintenance, since I'm not afraid of the sun heat.
Probably because I'm known for walking in far places for hours regardless of the weather -- so people thought I'm just being thrifty and/or active by preferring walks over transport.

I don't know. The physically unfit socially awkward nerd stereotype isn't very well known here.

It's an interesting situation. People call me autistic in a disparaging manner, then I have to convince them I'm NT, before finally telling them I am an Asperger's person. Seems to be the only way to correctly educate them.
