I have both of these conditions:

I'm wondering how many other people here have them?

I scored "clinically positive" for Alexithymia on my ASD assessment, as well.

It is common.

And I got neither of those.

My scores are more to do with emotional vocabulary (low VIQ), sexual disinterest (asexuality), then the atypical emotional processes and preferences then it's interactions with others (just being asocial and autistic) in general than an actual trait I supposed to have along with autism.

I have something around those lines. My positive emotions are muted in a vast majority of the time. My negative emotions are always amplified, I actually need medication for that. Also they all feel similar; without contextual clues, I won't know what I'm feeling.

I definitely have problems with Aphantasia but I was also born with a rare low vision disorder so that may be some of it. Having both problems is worse than either would be individually. I can look rite at something I can see OK & not realize it's there at 1st.

I think I have problems with Alexithymia as well & according to the quiz I do.

I guessed for some of these. Kinda odd that I can identify feelings but not describe them & what does Vicarious Interpretation Of Feelings mean :?:

If asked: "Tell me what you want, from the heart?" the answer from an alexithymic individual may seem entirely random. These answers are rarely convincing, often taking the form of ‘potted responses’ (see below). Most alexithymics can only answer such questions based on intellectually constructed principles, and if they can't do that, the answer is random because the idea of "just knowing" or of something "feeling right" is quite alien to them. People who cannot rely on their own feelings contract out the task to others, hence alexithymics characteristically defer emotion interpretation to other people, actively evoking feelings in surrogates -friends, partners, parents, therapists. Sometimes they may then borrow the others’ emotion-interpretations to re-state as their own.

As I've mentioned in other threads before, I have hyperphantasia, which is the complete opposite of aphantasia. However, my visualisation does have its limits. For instance, I usually have to meet with someone at least twice to recall their face in detail. Also, imagining exact numbers tends to destabilise my visual. I can't imagine fifteen boxes because I have a poor number sense. However, if I imagine a non specified number then I have no problem imagining the boxes. As long as I don't try to count them. Two boxes (for example) are fine, but once you go into two-digit numbers, my brain decides to quit. I can't imagine something being a certain number of miles or yards away either, mainly because I don't understand measurements all that well.

Regardless, I find aphantasia to be fascinating though, I'm especially interested to learn about artists and designers who have it. Personally, when I'm brainstorming ideas images flick through my mind as I speculate on what I could do for my projects.

Sometimes at the strangest of times. I was once stuck for an idea, so I gave up for a while. Then, when I was making a pizza and was only partly thinking about the project, I suddenly found myself struck with visual concepts. Everything started to flow together, so I quickly got a notebook, jotted a few notes down and very quick draft sketches of the images that had just flicked through my mind. Nothing impressive, but just enough to capture the general idea so I could get back to it once I'd finished making and eating the pizza.

Risperdal Consta and now Paliperidone have reduced the intensity of the negative emotions for me. My positive emotions are still muted though.

Aphantasia... I was reading this and thinking I don't get this, as I have a very visual inner deep thinking sort of mind, BUT, I do get a single area where I do struggle to remember in a visual way and this is to remember peoples faces. I juts can't remember what many people look like. Yes, I get faceblindness at times. But I maybe confusing two issues here as what the description in the link says, the ability to visualize something from a description... I am usually very good at doing this. I believe it is one of my strong points.

Alexithymia.... Umm. Now I believe I may actually have some issues here with this one. I don't think any major issues, but trying to describe how I feel when I know I feel something but can't describe exactly what it is... It is probably why for about 30 years of trying to describe issues to doctors which I now think are partial shutdowns.... It is only since being on this site since I've managed, by asking many questions to work it out. Hopefully when I am assessed, I will know where I am with this?

Well...
I got a 115 on the Alexithymia test. I would consider that a yes.

I already knew I had Aphantasia.

Then, as someone else mentioned I might as well add that I am aromantic and asexual.

It was after watching that lady and her clear descriptions that finally gave me the determination to ask one of my doctors for an assessment.
