Sometimes I think in black and white but I don't think I habitually think in black and white. For example, if my supervisor at work told me to just sweep the floors today and no mopping, if I see a floor that's really dirty I'll still go and get the mop without having to be asked. Some literal thinkers might think that "sweeping and mopping only, no mopping" means "no mopping at all under any circumstances", instead of "mopping doesn't need to be done today, unless you see a floor that is really dirty". The only time the literal no mopping under any circumstances may apply is if there was no mops available to be able to do it.
