To-day, I discovered that my phone had been stolen from my bunk area in the shelter AGAIN  . Literally, this was the fourth - at least - phone to be stolen while in this shelter.
More details later, but I was " lucky " enough that it happened when I had enough do$h to replace it - another $54.95 or so. It was not even a " cool " fancy phone (Yes. on replacement now). I was telling myself, to feel down and say now maybe to make you sorry for me. " This is how it's going to be now that I'm older and weak - People will prey on me " :( .

Are you saying your intention is to make people feel sorry for you?

Perhaps an anti-theft device is in order ?

Or something to keep your phone with you at all times ?

Can you keep your phone with you? It would probably best not to leave it in the bunk area when you aren't there. Seems apparent that its not a secure enough place that you can trust your phone will still be there if you leave it there, so one solution would be just take it with you.

...Regarding Ezra, I often analysE/criticize myself, even as I do things.
However, i HAD HAD THAT THOUGHT RUN THROUGH MY HEAD. pERHAPS SOME " LIBERTARIAN DUDE "-TYPE WOULD SAY " yOU SHOULD EXPECT BEING A VICTIM, NOW THAT YOU'RE OLD, THHAAT'S THE WAAY THe wOORLD WORKS " (i ACCIDENTALLY CAPITALIZED ABOVE, i'M SUSHING THIS OUT AT THE T HE LIBRARY, AND MORE HAS HAPPEMED.
i HAD BAGS FULL OF READING AND DRINKS AND NEW UNDERWEAR, IN ITS PACKAGING, FROM tARGET STOLEN FROM ME HERE AT THE LIBRARY  (Again, I'm not re-typing) Now I have to go and spend 412-plus AGAIN! just for new underwear :(! Briefly, they wouldn't let me back in the shelter last night because I was late, I slept outside in the cold ~ and I don't know if I'll get in too-night  .

...I don't know and that's depressing to think about :(. Many were broken/f****d up-stopped working, not stolen. Just as I've spent SK MUCH MONEY over-and over again on lost/stolen necessities!

Did you know you can get a free phone through Medicaid? You can Google for details.

...I assume you mean the type of basic plan cell phone + plan that still gets called " an Obamaphone " down here? I don't think I can get one at present. there'd a certain type of medical ID you have to have in California (above and beyond the standard state ID, which I do have) and so don't have it, I have asked about. an Obamaphone.

It seems there are two programs - the federal run Lifeline program (“Obama phone”), and a California state run Lifeline program. I couldn’t find what ID you need for either program, other than proving you are on Medicaid or Social Security, but the California Lifeline program indicates that you talk to your cellphone provider to arrange for the discount to your monthly bill. So maybe you already get the discount on your bill.

I would put my phone down my britches. You could wrap it in a glove or plastic wrap. If they were going to steal my stuff, I'd make 'em work for it. If I had seven pairs of underwear, I'd put them all on at once. Each day, I'd take off the pair closest to my skin. Then, I'd hide my phone in between the layers of underwear, so it wouldn't be gross.
