I'm suspicious about blanket statements that say only 14% with ASD had paid employment. It seems a lot of research is out of date when it comes to this kind of thing.
There are two reasons for this:
1)People who are happily employed aren't going to go through the long and difficult process of getting diagnosed.
2)Many "experts" still have the belief that if you have a job, you can't be considered on the spectrum. It never crosses their mind that if I were to lose my job (highly unlikely as that is) I would be absolutely screwed even with a Degree and Diplomas in my field. At least with visible minorities and women (who also get screwed in my male-dominated field) they will sometimes have hiring quotas or give them a "token" job.
