I personally believe with certainty that they simply don't exist. Once we die, we cease to exist. Any idea of an afterlife is horrific when given some thought.
The idea of a soul holds no water either.
Both ideas make absolutely no sense, but being "supernatural" is convenient, when you ask questions that can't be answered, people can move the goalposts or invoke God and magic as an answer.
I have never seen a single reason to even contemplate believing they exist.

Yes. But imo it doesn't mean spirits are necessarily deceased people, even though some might be. Maybe all spirits dead and conscious minds alive are part of one big thing. There is a term for it but I forgot it. I find it would explain things such as prophetic dreams or premonitions.

Define "Spirits".

Disembodied, self-aware personalities? No.

The general attitude of an era or culture? Yes

The personality of a living, corporeal being? Yes.

Any distilled beverage containing over 20% alcohol? Yes.

Well it wasn't the cat I heard playing with wood blocks, playing a music box tune I don't have (and loud!), creating the sounds of women's voices, heavy footsteps, or being a shadowy thing go past the bathroom door that was 4 feet off the floor.

But then I could be crazy... except others have seen/heard the same and more

my sister and the hospice unit nurses were convinced they saw a spirit rise above my recently expired father rise to the ceiling over his dead body in bed, then drift away. it was filmy white and had the most delicate slight opacity.

I don't believe in anything. I will accept something as true until proven otherwise. Belief implies accepting something without proof or questioning it. I was not raised that way.

I AM very open minded, though and will listen to anybody else's theories and experiences. Believing in those? No.

Yes, I really believe my mom can be in my apartment. When there was a big earthquake, my mom’s grandfather clock started working, the clock didn’t work for around 5 years, I heard chiming, when the clock was working, it scared the cat, that was on a Friday & on Monday,the clock stopped, I believe it was mom sending me a sign.
