I say absolutely!

Trump has asked aides about possibility of US acquiring Greenland: report

President Trump has privately asked aides about the possibility of purchasing Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Two advisers told the Journal that Trump asked them and other advisers at dinners and in passing conversations whether such a move would be possible, listening intently when they talked about its resources and geopolitical importance.

He also reportedly asked his White House counsel to look into the idea.

Some of his advisers were supportive of the move, the two sources told the Journal, saying it could be a good economic play. Others dismissed it as just a fascination.

He cant take care of Puerto Rico, but he wants to aquire even more outlying territories?
If he rebuilds PR first then I will take him seriously. Lol!
++++++++++++++++

But that issue aside I admit that it may not be as silly as it sounds to do this 21st century version of the Louisianna purchase, or Seward buying Alaska.

Because of climate change the Arctic ocean ice cap is shrinking. This is causing an arctic land grab among the circumpolar powers. The pole is becoming strategic because of both new sea routes opening up, and because of rescources on the sea bottom, like oil.

But I don't know if Denmark wants to sell the island. And we already get to use the place for some of our military bases anyway.

Its a strange place. Greenland is about the same size as the entire nation of Mexico, but has a population that could fit entirely into one football stadium.

Keep a bunch of missile bases on it. Same as now.

A foreign government official said "No" to Trump?

Isn't that like issuing a declaration of war against the U.S.?

I'll have to find out why he truly wanted to buy Greenland.

Yes, there's climate change---but the interior of Greenland is still quite cold and snowy.

Nuuk, the capital, is in the 20's Fahrenheit, usually, in the winter, and 40's-50's in the summer (for maximum temperatures). Nuuk is squarely on the coast.

Again, missile silos, plus the proximity to Russia made it a crucial art of the US early missile detection system. Plus, I doubt the idea was to buy it and populate it any more than it already is.

Doubt Denmark will be selling, though. Them having Greenland means they're part of the arctic council, and thus lets them punch above their weight on the international stage.

Its not the ice on Greenland. It's the ice cap next door to Greenland- the frozen top of the arctic ocean at the pole that is now disappearing. If it all turns into open ocean then the nation that owns Greenland will be in a position to grab control of the artic ocean, and keep the Ruskies, and the Canadians, from controlling all of the natural gas, and oil, on the sea bottom.

UPDATE: Greenland says it's not for sale. Which is exactly what you would expect them to say right before they sell. The deal is as good as done. :D

Trump thinks he's Napoleon. Islands aren't golf courses are they?

Maybe that's why he's doing nothing about global warning. He wants to play golf there!

It's not for sale...and it is unlikely the people of Greenland or Denmarks government are going to change their stance.
