It wasn't publically announced but reports are coming in from families that have been given 33 days to leave or face deportation. Children who are receiving life-saving treatment and cannot reasonably go back to south america are to be sent to their deaths being deprived of necessary medical treatment. Basically Trump just revoked their permission to be in this country across the board. This is completely disgusting in my opinion...just not sure how anyone would rationalize that this is ok. This is quite simply an attack on disabled people.

If this is true....yes, it's barbaric....and I hope the courts stop it.

Seems to be, one of the people to be deported is a young woman who came here for experimental treatment for her rare condition. It worked and has also helped to make treatment available for others, apparently she's been kind of an advocate for people with rare illnesses and yup she's gotta leave her lifesaving treatment behind to go back to Guatemala even though so far she's been approved to remain here every time her and her family has to reapply. The doctors are certain if she goes back where the treatment is not available her condition will quickly deteriorate and she will die.

I imagine whatever big drama has been going on with trump as of late, has likely been his distracting from putting this terrible policy in place.

I believe the world community should be in an uproar about this. I hope there is denunciation of this policy by many countries.

I hope some of these people take to the streets to protest. And I hope some other people who go on protests across the country will protest this.

I hope Trump doesn’t really follow through on this.

We have this law in Australia where residents on a VISA who are applying for permanent residency or citizenship are routinely knocked back/rejected if they (or a member of their immediate family) have a chronic illness or disorder.

So Trump is taking advantage to claim it will save American taxpayers money to not be burdened with their costs. I am sure this will please many on this forum who are very concerned about "freeloaders" taking a ride on the American taxpayer.

It is hard to know what the facts are offhand because this news has such an anti-trump slant to it. I have heard of American citizens being denied life saving medical treatment for various reasons.

I believe Canada has very strict immigration laws when it comes to medical treatment, to keep people from other countries taking advantage of their healthcare system.

I would not be surprised if the US is basically catching up to other nations who have had similar policies in place for decades.

According to numerous news sources (just google), this was enacted in the beginning of August. At present time, there seems to be no remedy. Patients and families were on "deferred action." Some patients are American citizens, though their parents aren't. Eligible for the program were conditions like HIV, cancer, epilepsy, cystic fibrosis.

Usually for not having insurance or cash to pay.

It's no secret trump wants to "catch up" with immigration policies in other OECD countries. Trump would love to turn the US into Poland or Hungary which have a zero refugee policy. I've watched Vlogs of an American basketballer who travelled though Poland and is regularly surrounded by people amazed because they have never seen a black person before. That would be Trump's dream for America.

In other words it is not just a trump thing and has been in existence way before trump all across the world.

Trump is a catalyst for the current changes...he is not the cause....he is a mediating factor

How about if somebody is already in a hospital bed, after surgery? And that somebody is given the 33-day notice?

We should rise above other countries, and show our humanitarian side.

That’s what I think.

This sort of thing is what gave the US credibility in the first place. As a place which rises over other countries. Now, we’re just a schmuck country with no more credibility than any other country.

Even so with something like this where the people in question and their families have been repeatedly granted permission to remain here...seems pretty brutal to only give them 33 days to leave the country with no chance for appeal. I mean if we want to accept less people with medical conditions then even though I may not agree with it, it should be done slowly not in such away it just sends people receiving treatment to their deaths. It should be something that is added in but in such a way that people who have already been accepted can remain here and it will be added in as a qualifier for accepting new immigrants.

Also if the people responsible are sure this is the right thing, why did they hide it from the public until people have come out saying they only have 33 days to get out?

Yep looks like the US is losing its reputation for taking care of the rest of the world.
