He has to go on trial, with the Senate as the "judge and jury." He must be convicted by 2/3's of all Senators who vote in order to be thrown out of office.
I think the aim is for whoever runs against him to be able to say that he was impeached. And what he was impeached for, even if it's a crock.
It will be interesting to see if whoever runs against Trump makes it more about getting rid of him, rather than the canidate talking about their strenths and what they have to offer country as president. That was Hillary's mistake.
