Here are a few of my thoughts about my fellow countrymen:

:nerdy:

Ethnocentric

A culture bordering on narcissism

Brainwashed and misled by movies and television

Always so sure that they are right and everyone else is wrong

Capitalistic Greed

Incapable of feeling guilt (unless they are white bleeding heart liberals in which case guilt is a way of life)

Love violence and war but hate sex

Can't stand non-Americans or even their fellow Americans because they are paranoid and think everyone is out to get them.

Values human rights (too much when it comes to gun control)

Has a liberal government

Much better place to live than most places

Too strong of a basis in religion

Needs to develop a broader worldview (not uncommon for a country, though!)

Needs to have some better systems in terms of healthcare and access to education, especially since it’s comparatively wealthy and could afford to do so with some adjustments

I can’t complain too much on account of all the ways the government has helped me

Some more thoughts:

Ironically calls itself "The Land of Freedom" and yet imprisons more of its own countrymen than any other developed nation in the world with a government that makes it near impossible for former convicts to return to society even after being released.

Ironically calls itself a country of religous freedom and yet has "In God We Trust" stamped on every coin, and for a country supposedly founded by Deists the government has always done its damnest to keep this a dominantly protestant country that enforced Christian traditions and rules on the public for two centuries.

A country that feels like one big irony in so many ways. :nerdy:

Also a country that stole this land without permission from the people who were living here first and then ironically freak out at the idea of other people coming to live illegally on their stolen land.

And one more thing...

The Karma Houdini of the world. :nerdy:

This, minus the last sentence since I don't live there.

The thing is, I've met many Americans that are like this, on the internet and especially in my own family.

But I'm starting to think that narcissism and mental illness like bipolar disorder runs pretty heavily in my family. I think maybe I really need more supportive friends who aren't related to me to show me what real people are like...

It's the Internet.....yes, you have idiots on the Internet.

Perhaps you could meet decent people while you work on their yard or something.

The individuals that I've met have nearly all been resonable, easy to get along and quite laid back. I get the impression that things are quite progressive on either coast but nearly all the bits in between, not so much. I still cling to the idea that most of them are well meaning and friendly. I think you're so lucky to have such wonderful landscape and all that space. I'd like to ride all over the USA with a bike and tent, meeting all the people in the hick areas, and see if it isn't possible to have friendly exchanges and still do my own thing wirhout getting shot!
(I like American novels set in rural area so I may have a rather rosey image of how things really are out there. There's a homely aspect portrayed which I'm attracted to)

I don't want to get into the politics any more than to say it comes across as quite macho and defensive sometimes. When I see teenagers getting assault rifles neatly wrapped under the Christmas tree I wonder how blinding that power must be. That legacy has not been great for your dimplomatic skills IMHO.

Guns are taken very seriously, even in "gun areas."

Even in "gun areas," they are kept under lock and key by sensible gun owners.

" The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic and a killer. It has not yet melted. " An observation by author D.H. Lawrence, I tend to agree.

I do not associate with a lot of people, but I read a lot of books that are culturally influenced.

Americans are isolated geographically, the people below us are full of need and crime. The people above us are full of European ideals and contempt. I have no use for either.

Americans I know are:

Independent
Confident
Fierce
Often Ruthless
Hard Working
Motivated
Clannish
Capable of closing ranks
Optimistic
Driven
Indomitable

There's more, I'm tired of it though.

Many Americans I know don't have the above qualities to an extreme degree.

Some of the Americans I personally know in my circle are:

Ethnocentric
Narcissistic
Racist
Prudish
Obsessed
Paranoid

And personally I feel like every 'good deed' Americans did for the world usually came with strings attached.

But I suppose that's better than what a countries like Russia and China have done. Maybe we're the lesser of three evils? :D
