Would you rather hear a loud bell ring suddenly or fingernails scratching on a chalkboard?

Fingernails scratching on a chalkboard because at least it's not a sudden loud noise like a loud bell. I hate loud bells.

That's a tough one, but I think I'd go with fingernails on a chalkboard. Both will cause me pain in the moment, but only the loud bell will startle me so badly that I'm shaking for half an hour afterward.

A loud bell ring is far more comfortable in my case in any case.
Whether it's any terms be it intensity and loudness, suddeness, pitch and textures, quantity or even quality of.

It's just fingernails on chalkboards 'textures' doesn't sit just as well whenever it happens at the moment.
No matter how soft, numerous, 'relevant' or expected, etc.

I’d rather hear fingernails scratching on a chalkboard. Loud bells/alarms startle me, as a child and as an adult. Unnerves me. Even the beeping of the microwave or when the washing machine loudly beeps to let you know a load’s finished, gets to me(meaning, I have to switch it off asap or it makes me feel on edge).

I'm used to hearing bells ringing from going to skewl till I graduated high-skewl & there's some bells in a shopping center area we go to that are supposed to ring the hour every hour like a cuckoo clock except with bells.

I absolutely hate loud clangy bells.
I could put up with the fingernails.

The loud bell instead of the fingernails.

The fingernail scratching. The sudden loud bell would make me jump out of my skin and probably raise my blood pressure to dangerous levels.

Thinking about even having to write on a chalkboard with chalk (or hearing someone do it, unless they do it in quick TAP TAP sounds with no 'screeeeech') makes me shudder. Or holding chalk. Yucky powdery weird thing.

Loud bell for sure.

The bell. I don't have issues with volume, only pitch.

Besides, I like bells. An angel would get his wings. The Brontës were known as the Bell brothers, as well.

Brothers? But weren't they sisters? Or was the family in general known as that?

They published as three brothers: Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell.
