I suppose that any thought is an intrusion on the state of meditation, and it usually takes years of patience to calm that down. For uncomfortable thoughts that feel like "not me" I found that the problem was not being fully awake. I get overstimulated with modern life, and need some meditation just to get ready to sleep enough. I also made naps a higher priority. Extreme thinking is needed to respond to the current extreme world situation, but it must come from wisdom, not panic.
Wherever you are, you can remember your breathing, and feel a connection with all of Nature's other cycles, from waves on the beach, to wingbeats, and to seasons, etc.
Sometimes an intrusive thought is one that just needs more thinking to understand. Eventually, it will probably recur at the right time for us to make a connection, based on another recent thought. One time, someone asked if I wanted to go for coffee and I said no, but I kept remembering the exchange for years before I realized that they were not worried that I was thirsty; they wanted to talk.
insightful words ..
