Okay this is way too late to do this I know but I am beginning to go crazy. Okay so anyway I have to (or am supposed to) go to my dads house next week or sometime soon (I let my parents handle it even though I am 19 because its just easier this way.) And anyway the long and short of it is I dont really feel at home at there anymore for from 13-18 I went there once a month or two and while last year I went there every weekend (and want to continue you to next school year) I still dont really feel at home there and dont know how I will take 2 monthes nonstop there. The sad part is I agreed to this pretty much blackmailed because my dad said he wouldnt say I was living with him last year (for FAFSA purposes which I despertly need finicial wise) because he is worried that if hes caught in a scam it will hurt my bros (which makes me angry right there....) so if I dont go there he might not count me next year and my mom will have to which means I get no money as my stepdad will make 6 figures this year.... ughhh dont know what to do.

I'm not current on finacial aid packages but wouldn't you get the most if *niether* parent claimed you as a dependent? Its really not a scam if you follow the rules which used to be dependent on who claimed you on his/her tax return, not where you actually lived.

It gets complicated because of health insurance too.

And, of course, their divorce decreed may dictate who has legal custody.

My first stop would be too look into becoming independent on paper.

Once you determine where you stand finacially, you can plan your next step which is where you want to live.

Your basically seen as still living with a parent until you havent for 4 years or something like that even if they arent helping at all (which there not) so basically now I start saying I live by myself after this year so I can get some extra money for grad school. My mom was pretty much disowned after HS (or she says she is :shrugs: ) and got nothing from the government because her parents who werent paying for her at all made too much so then I came along and she had to drop out for 10 years (well more like 8 but whos counting.)... the funny thing is she spent that time on welfare whereas if the Government would have just given her the money in the first place they wouldnt have had to give her near as much of it. Stupid really but isnt out government always stupid especcially in the federal beuracracy.
