My friend told me he got two free months of cell phone service because of covid-19 and he was on SSI. I called my company and waited for over an hour on hold... Just to be told my company is not giving anyone credits on their bill.

Not only did I waste 1 hour of my time, but I feel ashamed I tried to "cheat" money out of my phone company??? Or that I'm like everyone else greedy wanting more money??? Why do I feel this way??? I keep getting this terrible guilt...

(hug)
What you did is okay - you just checked out if the option you heard of is possible for you. That's all about it.
Maybe the person you talked to was generally stressed by the situation, so they acted impolite towards you, but there's nothing wrong with you asking questions.
(another hug)

I agree with magz, there’s nothing wrong in checking to see if a given customer help policy applies to you.
What would be wrong would be to misrepresent ones situation to obtain aid to which one is not entitled: which you haven’t done.
No harm, no foul. :D
