Message stuck in outbox

Today I sent a message to my favorite user of WP, but the message I sent to him has been sitting in "outbox" for hours...
Why is it not being sent?

This likely means it just has not been read yet,I don't think there is anything wrong with your message system.

Once the message has been read it will be transfered to the "sent" box,the difference between sent and outbox is whether it's been read or not.

Yea generaly the other person opens the message and you have a response before you even checked your messages,I just had a message in outbox for 24 hours before it was read and now it is in the sent box

ocassionally messages don't get read right away and stay in outbox,it is useful because it tell us whether a message has been read or not.I did not get a return message from the last PM I sent but at least I know it was read because it's now in the sent folder.
