My father made some excellent ones for us from unused sheets, pipe cleaners (sewn into the lining to make a nose grip), and hair - ties? scrunchies? - for earpieces. I think that if you pick a pattern that you think you can sew well and consider the properties of your materials carefully, you should be fine.

Given that you can fit 250,000 cov19 virus particles on a pinhead plus they’re airborne - there doesn’t seem much point in wearing an ill-fitting face mask

A microbiologist explained that the gaps around the masks and sometimes even in the material was the equivalent of a tiny beetle walking through some gates to get into the park .

Do you have a link to that. I'd like to read it?

There is also the issue of airborne cells landing on your eyes - which along with the mouth and nose are a primary point of entry for the virus

I heard it's better not to wear masks. Masks mostly prevent the wearer from spreading the virus. They don't really help stop the wearer from catching it & the masks may actually make it easier for the wearer to catch the virus. Some people feel a false sense of security by wearing a mask & don't practice social distancing. Plus mask wearers may end up touching their face due to them needing to adjust the mask.

My husband wants a 14th century style "beak" on a wire frame.
I love the idea but I'm too weak right now to create it and he's not good in sewing.

Homemade facemasks help slow spreading the infection from asymptomatic carriers. The Czechs put it into a slogan:
"My mask protects you, your mask protects me".

The Czechs and the Poles have done relatively well, thus far.

We started early, event cancelling, shift towards remote work if possible and school closures started before the virus had time to spread.
